Well, we just added what looks like 120 new cities, bringing it to 570, I think. (gotta confirm)
This includes Ramallah
Hey, we're hiring open source programmers, with Linux, Perl, MySQL and related experience.
The detail is here on our site.
My favorite line: chance to build X, as in "craigslist should have had X years ago!"
We tend to do stuff without much announcement, but I figured you might want to know that we implemented multiple language support for craigslist in November. Just Spanish then, but last week we added more languages. Check for yourself:
The programmers inform me that maybe Basque, maybe Klingon, are next.
Private investigators are searching for the origins of a photograph that allegedly depicts a UFO flying over a Capitola, Calif., utility pole....
The pictures, which were posted by someone using the name Raji on Craigslist, depict an object that appears to be too small to be manned flying above a utility pole. Raji told the Open Minds Forum in an e-mail that the pictures were taken Capitola near the home of his fiancee's parents, but his e-mail account disappeared and the forum was unable to get contact them.
Hey, Jim's the guy who really runs things, in the UK now, and has done two interviews which illustrate the really good job he does:
And you really don't hold meetings?"Of all the meetings that I’ve gone to in the past virtually all of them, I’ve felt, were kind of useless. Some of the things that happen in meetings [such as] trying to motivate people to work harder, well that’s not something that we [need to] do, and as far as keeping people on the same page, well most of our workers are tech workers who are to one extent or another not super sociable and are perhaps more comfortable keeping it on the same page through computer programme chat mechanisms. For tech work it’s a much more robust way of communicating than sitting and talking in person in some ways. The other thing is I don’t like closed door meetings because I know from my years working in big organisations that they always mean something bad is going to happen."
(I'm sure Jim spelled it "organiZation", oh, and "program")
Hey, Jim's the guy who really runs craigslist, and in this interview he explains why we're not interesting in selling, why we charge for almost nothing, and so on.
If you've heard of this, to clarify, it's craigslist doing it, not the Craigslist Foundation.
Jim gets the credit, this is really smart, and I'm looking forward to see what happens.
... and for those of you who've been complimenting me on (what you perceive) as my endowment, why... thank you!
Hey, if you do any reading today, please note I'm merely part of a team helping out.
We also have some volunteers checking out badly behaving brokers, and they really help out the people of New York City by reporting problems.
To be sure, we don't monitor the ads in any manner, but it really is true that I drop in on agencies when I'm in NYC, the stages of acceptance are:
Hey, so you know, and maybe can share with people in San Diego, and their friends and family, we got a pretty active discussion board going on, here.
UPDATE: looks like people are using the site for more, per UPI:
The Web site Craigslist was filled with offers of pet food, storage space, and the free use of a pickup truck for people needing to haul household goods out of harm's way.
Here's someone in Minneapolis looking for help for relatives.
