Hey, the folks at the Iraq & Afghanistan Veterans of America report good progress, and they played a real role in this.
*Two critical provisions impacting Vets were included in the 2009 war supplemental bill that passed the House last night.
*The stop-loss provision would provide up to $5,000 in back-pay to thousands of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans who were held beyond their enlistment contract before October 2008 under the military's stop-loss policy. Earlier this year, Congress funded similar payments to about 12,000 troops who were under "stop-loss" orders, but those payments weren't retroactive beyond Oct. 1.
*The new education benefit would allow the new GI Bill to be transferred to all children of servicemembers who died while on active-duty since 9/11.
* Overtime payments and education benefits for children of those killed in the line of duty are long overdue.
Thank you to Congress for standing up for our stop-lossed troops and Gold Star families.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish all the very best to Colbert. This is quite a nice and interesting posting.
