Ebay investing into Craigslist is like Microsoft giving free software to public libraries. Nothing is free. I guess that there is a market or community that Ebay cannot reach with their advertisments and Craigslist is one such community. There was a cola company who gave away free merchandise to a set of bloggers to create promotional contests for them. This was termed "viral marketing".

Ebay is not a good company, not after it went public. I know people who worked there and they were squeezed harder than Cisco did.

Craigslist is very useful to me and I thank Craig for it. I just hope it's not the end of an era.
